Background FRG Clothing is the oldest garment manufacturing company in Papua New Guinea (PNG). FRG was taken over by Star Mountain Clothing Ltd in the year 2007. Star Mountain Clothing Limited (SMCL) is a Landowner Sustainable Development Company started in the year 1999, to supply the clothing for Oktedi Mine (OTML) and their contractors and of course to supply uniforms to all schools in the Western Province of PNG. Due to the tentative closure of the mine, Oktedi wanted all the contractors based in Tabubil to establish a business out of the western province so that the landowners will get a sustainable income even after the mine closure. In this process SMCL took over FRG Clothing in 2007 The basic advantage of SMCL is that is a tightly managed company, for the past 10 years and it grew up to a level of taking over a double the size of the organization with out much of strain and stress Star Mountain Clothing took over FRG with staff strength of 67 in the factory which has been at present increased to 137. After taking over, major renovations had been done on the building. New sales office is being built; entire factory which was open, has been fenced, new tea area has been built On the Plant and machinery side, a new genset has been installed, new embroidery machine has been purchased and the number of machines on the production lines also increased which includes specialty machines also FRG introduced a free mid day meal package in the year 2008 and it is running very successfully FRG Clothing's client base has increased by the way of aggressive marketing strategies and serving the customers on time and to their needs and expectations. Fabric stock level of the company has been increased by five times with comparison to the previous management. A new sales office has opened in Port Moresby, the National Capital District (NCD) to serve the customers of Port Moresby FRG Clothing is a 100% PNG owned company the directors are very eager to reinvest and make the business prosper, this ensures the growth of the company which will reflect on the increase in the labor force and local investment only which obviously will contribute to the country's economy.
